FAQ
Before you sip: answers
Mushrooms and adaptogens
What are adaptogens?
Adaptogens are described in Ayurveda and Traditional Chinese Medicine as daily allies for balance—used both preventively and during demanding periods. Classic descriptors frame them as non-toxic at normal use, non-specific (used across many kinds of stressors), and normalising (aimed at equilibrium rather than stimulation or sedation). In the EU the term is not a regulated health claim; we use it as cultural and historical context, not a medical promise.
Are adaptogens safe?
Traditional criteria describe adaptogens as non-toxic, non-specific, and normalising. In practice, safety is individual: start modestly, be consistent, and stay within 3 g/day total across our blends. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, take prescription medicines (for example anticoagulants or immunosuppressants), have a diagnosed condition, or plan surgery, speak with your clinician before use.
Are functional mushrooms magic mushrooms?
No. “Magic mushrooms” refers to psilocybin-containing species. Veda Vana uses non-psychoactive culinary and tonic species with long food and tea traditions. They are legal as foods/supplements in the EU and chosen for daily ritual—not intoxication.
What are functional mushrooms?
Functional mushrooms are true fungi (their own kingdom—neither plant nor animal). We work with non-psychoactive culinary/tonic species such as reishi, lion’s mane, cordyceps, chaga, and tremella. They are extracted into clean, soluble powders for simple daily use. In modern wellness, many of these species are also described as adaptogens—there is overlap, but not every functional mushroom is classified that way. Ours are caffeine-free, organic, and dual-extracted to be easy to mix.
Will I get the same benefits from the mushroom in its whole, unprocessed form?
Whole mushrooms are excellent nutrition, but many fractions remain bound in chitin. With dual extraction (water and alcohol) we access both water- and alcohol-soluble compounds (for example β-glucans and species-specific triterpenes) and dry them into a consistent powder that dissolves cleanly. That means more of the targeted fractions per gram and a repeatable cup.
What are Reishi, Tremella, Lion’s Mane, Cordyceps, and Chaga traditionally known for?
Across East Asian and northern traditions you will find recurring themes: reishi (lingzhi) for calm-focused evening rituals; tremella for inner-beauty routines; lion’s mane for focused study and learning; cordyceps for active, daytime rhythms; chaga for resilience in northern forest tonics. We share these roles to guide your ritual and selection.
Quality and sourcing
Why is it important to have 100% organic ingredients?
Fungi absorb compounds from their environment. Organic standards limit synthetic pesticides/fertilisers and require documentation from source to pack. Because fungi bio-accumulate, we prioritise certified organic supply and EU-compliant processing under our SKAL certification.
Which part of the mushroom do you use (fruiting body vs mycelium)?
Lion’s mane, reishi, and tremella are 100% fruiting body. Cordyceps combines fruiting body with bio-active mycelium; chaga is the sterile conk. Species choices reflect responsible preparation and how each is traditionally handled.
What does dual extraction mean and why do you use it?
Dual extraction means hot-water extraction for hydrophilic fractions (notably β-glucans) and alcohol extraction for non-polar compounds (e.g., triterpenes in reishi, certain sterols). Combining them yields a more complete extract and a powder that dissolves reliably in warm liquids with fewer clumps. Practically, you get repeatable composition per gram and a smoother cup day after day.
Do you test for beta-glucans, heavy metals, and purity?
Each batch undergoes independent testing for identity and purity, plus composition checks including β-glucans (>20%). We screen heavy metals to EU-compliant thresholds and release only after passing results. Third-party lab reports are maintained per batch.
Where are your mushrooms grown and processed?
We prioritise cultivation in Dao Di regions in China—areas traditionally recognised for species quality and agronomic know-how—then process and pack under EU-compliant, organic-certified conditions with full batch documentation. For any exceptions, we document origin and method.
Are your products vegan and allergen-friendly?
Only organic mushroom extracts; no animal ingredients, fillers, flavours, or sweeteners. Check labels if you have specific allergies or restrictions.
Use and experience
How much should I take and when should I take it?
Begin low and slow: start at 0.5 g once daily for a few days, then move to 0.5–1 g once or twice daily. Mix with warm water, tea, or coffee; for smoothies, dissolve first in a little warm water. Many choose Focus and Perform in the morning for clear work blocks; Rest and Restore later as a wind-down—yet day-friendly when you want a calmer pause. Do not exceed 3 g per day across blends.
Should I use them daily or occasionally?
These are steady rituals. A simple everyday cup helps you evaluate them far better than sporadic use and keeps the experience smooth and predictable.
How long does it take to experience the benefits?
Expect a gradual build rather than a jolt. With daily use (0.5–1 g once or twice per day), some people feel a difference within days to a few weeks; many form a clearer view at 4–6 weeks. The longer-term impact is usually quiet and cumulative—consistency matters more than intensity.
Can I mix the powders with coffee, tea, or smoothies?
They blend cleanly with warm liquids. Starting pure a few times helps you understand the taste; then pair with your usual drinks. For cold blends, dissolve first in a small amount of warm water for best texture.
Can I cook or bake with them?
Extended high heat can dull aromatics. Stir in near serving, or use in low-to-moderate heat recipes (soups, sauces, oatmeal). Baking is fine; consider adding to glazes or fillings rather than long bakes.
How should I store the powders?
Keep the tin in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Close the lid firmly to prevent clumping. No refrigeration needed.
Is daily use safe and does consistency matter?
Intended for regular use. Consistency helps you assess fit with your day–night rhythm. Start at 0.5–1 g once or twice daily and stay within the maximum. If you have specific medical questions, speak with your clinician.
Safety and interactions
Can adaptogens help with ADHD?
We do not claim to treat ADHD, and supplements are not a substitute for medical care. That said, some people with attention challenges choose non-caffeinated, adaptogen-style rituals to support clear-headed, steadier work blocks without the stimulation curve of coffee. If you are exploring this within your plan, coordinate with your clinician on timing and interactions.
